Ok stupid question time again: brake bells and rotors, can someone tell me how they differ to a normal brake set up, and what the advantages are.
Thanks

Re: Brakes
No expert but as far as I understand factors include; weight, flexibility of size and offset, cheaper replacement rotors(maybe?), heat dissipation and reduced warping.
Some of that lot might be myth and legend though.

Re: Brakes
Heat dissipation is a primary benefit, I believe. Stu P knows a thing or two here. Not necessary for road or occasional track use, by any means.

Re: Brakes
I don't think that the replacement disks are cheaper - I seem to remember that they are manufactured by taking a normal disk and cutting out the hub flange ... could be bollocks though!
If you stick with the standard hubs and callipers then peak braking performance is going to be exactly the same. There may be some benefit to heat dissipation, but it's probably a minor effect.
If you use a larger disk and offset the calliper you are obviously going to get more braking performance (you're using a longer lever to stop the car).
I suspect the difference will only be relevant to people racing where you push the brakes to the limit lap after lap.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Brakes
Ok thanks for the info. I don't much like the look of the standard hubs but that's not reason enough to change really.
Thanks

Re: Brakes
Murray will often paint the hubs to keep them looking tidy at least.
