Audi A3 Satnav upgrade

Evening, mate just picked up a box fresh a3 with a nifty pop up ice which has an option for satnav. He did not tick the box for the maps so is left with an empty SD card slot which they will fill for £700.
Anyone know how to add this using alternate methods?

No idea, but the guys at "A for Audi", (Audi specialists) in clydebank might be worth a shout.

Tricky one Sanjoy - i believe the only way to activate the satnav is via an online session with the central audi systems. Official tools are required

Assume that he didn't spec satnav, but not maps. That would be impressive.
