Avon ZZR's

I know a few on here have this rubber fitted.

What pressures do you use on the road for 'normal' rather than 'spirited' driving as have set at 2.0 bar all round and they seem awfae hard. Was running AD08's at 26 / 28 - F / R and although they did not grip anything like the ZZR's the ride around town and on uneven surfaces was noticeably less 'crashy'.

Have also gone back to 195 profile and although have not yet got into any really spirited driving the change from 205 profile is noticeable.

From Avon's website (track use)

http://www.avonmotorsport.com/resource- ... s-on-track

So 2 bar seems about right for normal running when up to temp so 2 bar as a starting point might be too high but this is all based on track use.

I'm suprised you can feel much difference in grip on the road between the AD08 and the ZZR? The ZZR is a race spec tyre and like the 48R I suspect it has a very stiff tyre sidewall. I always figured the 48R was too stiff for the road really although the AD08 is quite stiff too. Ultimately I think it might just be the compromise you need to suffer with if you run an R spec tyre like this on the road.

I have just had these fitted, I will get to try them on Thursday when I get home. It will be interesting to see how they compare to the AO48's.

They are a bit crashy on the road due to the stiff sidewalls. I run with 28psi on the road as you're aiming for 30 hot. After Spazz I hadn't checked the pressures and it was all over the place in the wet. Checked them and they were 22 so I'd say that's too low

I put my spare wheels with ZZR's on for Spazz.

However on the road they are certainly stiffer than the R1R's that they replaced, especially with the 550/650 springs, so will go back to the Toyo's.

I'd also lowered my pressures on Spazz after Andy G's advice. Also forgot to put them back up again but they were fine until I got further north and the temperature started to drop.

Many thanks gents. Will drop the cold pressure down to 28 and see if that improves things slightly. The ride is not too bad when compared to the AD08's but the grip is a whole lot better under acceleration although that may also have something to do with the fact the last sets of 08's were a little on the thin side and more than 2 years old/quite hard compound. Will probably put the other wheels with the new 08's on for running around and keep the ZZR's for KH and spirited dry runs, although have had interest in the Exige and may not have it come the SIDC day in September.

Pretty similar to A048s I think. Perfectly fine if your pressures are high enough, a nightmare of they're not
