Scottish Elises

Okay in short - car has been sitting in the garage for a month or so following birth of Shuglet. I've said to Elaine repeatedly not to arm the alarm in the garage, as it'll just drain the battery, but repeatedly, she ignores me

So, went to start it at the weekend, as she wanted to take junior out in it. Saw the locks down, plipped the key - nothing. Not even the attempts to move on the part of the locks that you get with the central locking unit failing.

First thought was she'd drained the battery, so connected another battery up (being paranoid to get polarity right) and tried again. Nothing. Started to worry when I opened the boot and the alarm didn't go off.

Also tried the other keys in case the alarm fob has lost registration.

Alarm light (also change up light) on the dash is dimly illuminated. Steady on, not flashing.

I'm thinking the alarm unit has died (maybe the backup battery doing it's leaking trick?)

So

a) any ideas as to what has happened?
b) how the sweet suffering F do I get in?

And as an additional question - where the engine bay fuses were on the 111R now has a supercharger sitting in it. Can anybody tell me where the engine bay fuses are relocated on the SC?

b) Is there not a charging post somewhere under the front cover ? Sure I heard that you can open the front with Allen keys and there should be ' terminals' to attach a charger too in order to enable central locking to work, might be talking bollocks though

That was only for Exige where you need to get in the cabin to release the boot (to get at the battery). Whereas on 111R the boot opens with key as Shug has done.

Yup - that's on an Exige and only when you can't get in thanks to no power. I've managed to get to the battery to give it power, so it's not that.

Sounds very much like what my bike alarm did when it fried. When it fried the default position was immobilised and looked like a flat battery. You could try shorting the starter motor to see if there is power there, it probably won't start as there is no doubt a fuel pump cut as well. That won't help you get in the car mind you. Coat hanger may work in the door to lift up the button.

I had to remove those points that the alarm cut into and just return it to factory position, probably not that easy in the Elise and a new Alarm unit may be your best option if it is fried.

Coat hanger + shoe lace - prise the window away from the roof - just 1cm or so- lasso the lock button and open - done it a few times

Hows this for service... Craig's obviously seen this on his hols and texted me the fix this morning.

Turns out the battery was so f*cked that it was shorting internally, so sticking jump cables onto the terminals did nowt. Removing the Elise battery completely and using the same slave battery and connecting up to the battery cables in the Elise did the trick.

So, disaster averted, simple replacement battery time. And a massive thumbs up to Craig from MMC again for texting me from his sun lounger

Result! That's mentally filed away for the future.... I'd have just clipped another battery in parallel too.

Also, starting to wish Craig would get another job, along the lines of opening a Subaru service center in Inverurie!

Glad it was a simple fix. My Evo battery did that at the start of a lap round the ring. Just completely died. Shorted inside. I knew it was fried as if you shorted the terminals there was no sparks. Obviously if you tried to short the starter there would've been nothing so could have indicated a battery fault. So sometimes 'Red Neck' mechanics works.

Please note that under no circumstances should you test a battery by shorting its terminals .... if the battery is good it will melt whatever you are holding and burn you ... and that's a good outcome!

Aw come on, so you don't touch both black and red jump leads together briefly to make sure the are connected to the battery properly before trying to jump another battery? I thought that was the accepted method. Looks cool in the dark too.
