Helper springs

What is the purpose of them?

On the Gaz coilovers currently fitted to my VX the rear ones are still fully compressed even with the shocks removed of the car, likewise the front ones are not far of being fully compressed. They would be with any weight on them.

So what do they do, and I take it there is no point them being fitted if fully compressed?

:cheers

kind of depends on the rates and what your trying to achieve...

In the simplest of terms they allow you to run springs that would not normally fit the travel. They take up the slack.
