Tyres for V6, suggestions?

Post by Simon82 » Mon Nov 17, 2014 6:03 pm

Standard pirelli's coming to the end of their life and just wondering what tyres people would recommend? Anyone tried AD-08's on the v6? Have read good things about the Avon ZZR's just wondering if these would be the ones to go for or any other suggestions? Always been a fan of michelins but never seen anyone running them on a Lotus.

If the ZZR's on the V6 are anything like they are on N3, then probably a no brainer. Wear rate after six Trackdays was incredible, no problems with grip, the only thing we did not get a chance to try them in was the wet.

I had AD08's on yellow N3, but I will be sticking to the Avons.

It depends on what you're using the car for. I've got ZZRs for the track but prefer the Pirellis on the road.

Going to be a mix of both Neil, I didnt mind the Pirelli's on track and they seem to wear not too bad but i've never been a big fan of them in general. Just forward planning for Frolics so was considering either sticking with the pirellis again, michelin pilot sport cups or Avon ZZR's are curently on the short list. Ideally i'd like to have a set of track wheels as well but can't justify them just now.

If you're doing Frolic then I'd definitely get a set of ZZRs as they're probably the only tyre that will last the week! Downside is they're not as comfortable ride on the road and can be interesting if there's standing water about. I had the Pirellis on for Oulton & Cadwell and absolutely killed them without even doing as much track time as I'd hoped so there's no way I'd try a Frolic with them. I'd be tempted to stick a set of Pirellis on for now then change over to a fresh set of ZZRs for Frolic - if you put ZZRs on now you'll have the pre Frolic dilemma of whether to change them or not.
Have you seen Seriously Lotus are now selling Team Dynamics wheels for the V6 - http://www.seriouslylotus.com/wheels-ty ... loy-wheels Slightly easier to justify than a set of Lotus ones.

P Zeros are a lot cheaper from mytyres, and Trofeos are killable in a day on track so would make Frolic an expensive trip!

Neil,

Would a new set of ZZRs last you for next years Frolic driving there and back, or will you need to get new tyres for the drive home?

Have you tried the Toyos or Michelin pilot sports?

Cheers guys, i'm in no desparate rush for them just now, just planning ahead really. some good prices on tyres just now so could stick them in the garage until needed.
Cheers for the links, not a bad price for the TD's but not sure i'm a fan of how they would look...definitely an option though :)

I got back from SPAZZ with half of the tread still left, so a no brainer for FF.

Agree with Neil on the road. Went to put the original wheels back on with AD08's that I bought the car with to smooth out the ride, but they were barely legal.

Mine did SpaZ plus Oultwell and still have (dare I say it) 4mm left...
Little aquaplaning on the way back from Cadwell when Neil was struggling.

Obviously this is on a nice light 2-11 not a lardy V6 or overpowered SC Honda S1. ;)
