dead battery and beeping issue.

Post by StiflerMR2 » Sat Jan 03, 2015 9:48 am

Hey all, got back after an extended xmas holiday and naturally the S1's battery was totally dead. I hooked up my trickle charger and now there is a beep beep beep.

Any ideas if this will cease once the battery gets enough charge? Pressing alarm buttons does nothing. If there is anything I can do I the meantime I'm sure the neighbours would be grateful!

Oh, and happy new year!

TIA ☺

If you can get the car started it will charge the battery faster.

Apart from that, just wait. The alarm will hopefully sort itself out once its battery is recharged.

Cheers,
Robin.

PS if you can get it driving you can take it elsewhere and thus stop annoying the neighbours.

Thanks Robin, tried turning the key to ignition position but the stack flashes like my Xmas tree and has no readout on it. Battery must be really dead.

Will leave it on for a few hours, if I can get it to start ill take it for a long drive.

Do you not have another car and leads that you can jump start from?

She's taken the wee man shopping so I can get a day of peace ;)

It's stopped beeping now so will try and get it started and off for a drive!

Had a similar issue myself. Car has been parked up at work due to window wiper Mechanism falling apart. Having been on holiday for 2 weeks I went to start the car on Monday and the engine tried to turn over. Tried jump starting it of another car using small jump leads but didn't do nothing. Checked the voltage of the battery and it was reading 9.2v yesterday after the jump start. This morning arrived at work and checked the voltage again and it was down to 3.29v put a charger on it and left it on for 6 hours checked the voltage again and it was only at 3.28v. This afternoon I managed to get a big set of jump leads and the car started first time. After removing the jump leads the battery was reading about 14v which I expect is normal and proves the alternator is working.
Not sure what caused the battery to drop from 9v to 3ishv after only 1 night considering it has sat idle for 2 weeks.

Danny, how old is the battery? That's a very low voltage to see and it could very well indicate it's damaged. It's likely to be giving your alternator a beasting too, trying to charge it if it's damaged. I'd start to look at a new one in the circumstances, or take it off the car and put it on a good battery charger for a few days. You might get some luck.

Hey Steve, I've owned the car since June last year and was told the battery was replaced in May last year. So not that old IMHO.

Lidl have trickle charger coming on special on the 15th of Jan. Plug it in and it should stay fine.

3v is dead and unlikely to make full recovery. Batteries of this type do not survive deep discharge.
However it got in this state it probably now needs replacing.

Cheers,
Robin
