Help - Cut Out

Help
59 Plate Toyota engined Exige 240s.
Car was cold. Started no problem. About a mile from the house, 4th gear low revs, 35 MPH, was about to dip the clutch and go for 5th when the car cut out. All lights on the dash went out. Rev counter and speedo went to stops. No warning lights came on. Headlights were on and remained on. Dipped the clutch and went for a bump start as thought the car may simply have cut out. Nothing. Light on the starter button was off. Hit the starter. Nothing. Switched on hazards and they worked. Coasted to a halt at the side of the road. At some point as I was pulling into the side of the road the central locking locked down. Stopped. Switched off the ignition. Switch back on. All was back to normal. Hit the starter and carried on like nothing had happened.
This happened once before about 6 weeks ago but at that time thought the car had cut out due low revs...That was definately not the case here.
The central locking activating and locking the car was odd. Might I have a battery issue with the key fob??? Key and alarm are all in one jobbie.
Really no idea what is going on and any advice / ideas etc welcome....
Martin

Had the same thing happen on a run with the 111r 260. Just died for no apparent reason and refused to restart for a couple of minutes. Fired up again no problem and never happened again.
Must be a characteristic

I would be looking for loose battery terminals or fuses ...

Just had the same problem going into work this morning..... car started fine, then cut out at charing cross, couldn't start it by key. First sign of problem was radio went blank then dash lights went nuts and flashed in time with brake lights. I had a new alternator fitted yesterday but not sure if just a bad coincidence leading me down wrong path. Managed to bump start the car after a few minutes and it started fine by key a couple of hours later. Really strange as never had any issues whatsoever. I wonder if new alternator has upset the alarm/immob or the radio is dodgy (not that I listen to it much anyway) and it caused some electrical confusion that made the car cut out.
Checked the battery with meter and sitting at 12.5v with car off and 13.4 with car on so it seems alternator is charging leading me to suspect dodgy connection somewhere....although I didn't think a dodgy alternator connection would cause the car to misbehave in that way...
Anyone experience this?

I had it in my S2 Elise, same as Martin above. Cut out for no reason, car completely dead and then able to restart after a couple of minutes. Never got the bottom of it as it never happened again. Never threw up any codes either which was strange.

Cheers Mikie, I'm hoping it is the same case for me! Heading out for a drive in it tonight to see if I can stir up any problems again!

My issue looks like it was a loose battery connection. Raged the car around KH a couple of weeks ago and all was well. Hope you get to the bottom of the issue or it simply does not happen again..

I'd put it down to a bad earth - I would guess probably somewhere in the middle of the car.
