Neil,

I don't think it's a "wear" item. By that I mean that if it's worn then it needs replacing.

A worn toelink would allow the wheel some degree of movement (depending on the amount of wear) which will give you dynamic geometery in a static plane as you corner.

If in doubt I would replace.

On the elise there are three possible scenarios I think:

(1) ball joint at one end or other.
(2) the bolt that goes through the rear lower wishbone mount ovalises the subframe and so can move about in that.
(3) where fitted, the bracket bolted to the bottom of the upright cracks and allows the vertical bolt some movement.

I have only ever seen these cracks develop on Tut's car, and this seemed to be the result of excess droop at some point. Interesting tut also had the ovalisation problem in the subframe (actually his was just straight corrosion).

Removing the outboard end and bracket for inspection should be possible without significant disruption to geo. Inboard end is easy enough too, but undoing/tightening the bolt is a bit of a scunner. Also it's easy to think you've done it up when you haven't, leading to ovalisation of the subframe ...

You need to get it somewhere where you can remove the toe link and take a proper look at it ...

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. The toe link might break, but hopefully it never brakes :-)

Neil

Do you have the uprated toelinks or the originals?

If the former then they will go, even more so with the Honda and 48R's. I have had two lots of originals snap, and recently both lower strengthening brackets on the uprated ones cracked through, and had to be replaced.

And dont forget that I am a smoother and more sympathetic driver than you. <BG>

theres a tiny bit of play in the OSR wheel. Robin helped me try to trace it last night, but it was dark and starting to rain. Its probably just a little bit of play in the rose joint on the outer edge, but will try to check it propery before thursday
