Scottish Elises

Was thinking about this, my Yoko 48s are about halfway done on rear and from what I gather they are no longer are E marked so not legal. Probably replace with AD08R's/Avon ZZRs or similar but and this is the puzzling bit.. Whats wrong with your typical premium sports tyres on Loti? I had Pilot Supersports on my 335i BM last and they were cracking tyres completely transformed the car from the Bridgestones on it before, why are these types of tyres not common on the likes of the Exige and Elise?

Basically the tyres are too hard a compound for the weight of the car.

sorry to hijack your thread but thought I'd ask a simialr question rather than start a new one.

I have 7j x 15 front and 8j x 16 rears on an S1 current running T1Rs 195/50/15 and 225/45/16. I'm not that enamoured with the T1Rs and I don't really need a tyre that goes in the wet as the car doesn't usually see much rain. I might do a trackday or two a year max, vast majority will be on road.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of Yoko AD08Rs all round - can someone confirm that this isn't daft? Really not keen on spending twice the cash on AD07 LTS?

Those are S1 size wheels but the AD07 LTS only comes in S2 sizes. The AD05/06 LTS is available for the S1 but having moved from them to the AD08R I'd go 08 again. Stickier, have lasted better and £300 cheaper. Ultimate steering feel not as just good but will be better than the Toyos.

Woody I reckon the ad08's are much better than the ad07's and that was backed up in a test between the two that I saw and can't remember where.

Ad08's are the newer tyre so must be better. You won't be disappointed compared to t1r's that's for sure.

Thanks guys. It is an S1 - I was getting mixed up between AD05/6/7.

Have ordered the AD08Rs so will report back...

Well I've put a few hundred miles on the AD08Rs now and they are better than the Toyos. I'm an inexperienced Elise driver but the difference was very obvious to me in a few areas. The turn in is much sharper, they feel much more stable at high speed and the rear grip seems much better (although not fair to compare against worn Toyos)

Only thing is they don't feel quite as planted, car seems to glide a long a bit more but this might be tyre pressures so going to have a play with these today.

Got full set fitted for £380 thought that was pretty reasonable?

Not sure why but the car looks a lot meaner with them on too
