Scottish Elises

I was just wondering if anyone had the capability to make one a front undertray (the one with the holes in it) for the S1 exige. Mine is ok, but it has seen a bit of action from single track roads on the west coast.

Price from Deroure is like most things like this....several hundred pounds!

It's not a difficult part to make, but a 1 off would be expensive if you were paying someone to draw & make it I think.

tbh I've not tried checking for one in stock, but others have struggled to source these. The picture in the original post was made by another owner in oz who couldn't find a replacement. He has a drawing I'm sure he'd share, or I could draft one from my original. I wasn't sure how the holes would be punched / drawn. So much for my education in manufacturing, 5 wasted years 25 years ago.

The hole problem made me think of the scuttle panel vent the Bad Obsession Motorsport guys did in an Episode of Project Binky. Doing a round hole must work in a similar manner?

Sheet of aly, some tin snips and an angle grinder. How hard can it be.

There's a tool you can use to cut & form the holes quite easily (if you don't have a press). A metal supply place (we use Ayrshire steels at work) should be able to supply & cut the material to size. Not sure how accurate they'd be.

Campbell, you're right on the grinder & snips, but the finish wouldn't be good enough

Mine was scrawped to hell, but you can not see it and it was still doing its job.

Looks like a nice little project for a student with a CNC water jet cutter.....ahh a previous life. The purchase price is actually ok, given someone has had it stored for 15 years etc, but I've not found that someone yet.

If I'm going to get the angle grinder out, I could always start with the hammer and get it back into shape ish. The current one isn't that bad, I'll should just tart it up and be happy in the knowledge it's better than whatever Tut has.

I reckon the majority of the damage was following Ian Thomas over some goat track North of Dingwall, I spent more time up the verge avoiding the crown of the road than I did on the tarmac.

I do have access to a guillotine for this guage of metal. So if the holes are easy, might be straight forward

Need a sheet metal flaring kit.... Like the guy on this page has..

I do fancy making my own, however it doesn't make sense for just one, now that I have discover lotus have 3 in stock.

Excellent info Mark, the bomber seat shows what can be achieved with some relatively basic tools and some pretty good skill - really impressed with the finish he got.
The flaring tool looks like the tool for the job, thanks for resolving my curiosity. However I think the holes are closer to 3" which is somewhere between £85 and £175 for the flare kit.

If only I had more time................I'd start making bomber seat office chairs.

Any local sheet metal place should be able to produce one from a drawing I had a rear diffuser made for my car by prestige fabrications in EK.
