Ball joints - getting the bolts off

Hi all

It's time for the next step on my (very protracted) suspension rebuild.

Tell me if there's any way to get ball joint nuts off! Last time I could loosen the bolts, but couldn't stop the bolts from turning when I'd got the nuts up to the rusty part of the old thread. Am I missing something?

Also, anyone have a press somewhere in/near Edinburgh that I could use to push the ball joints out of the wishbones?? I have an Eliseparts ball joint removal tool - but the last one I tried was so well stuck in the wishbone I bent the tool...

Cheers

Tim

I think there is some kind of fork tool to help jam the joint while you slacken?

Or Eliseparts have a removal tool. I think I have one, welcome to borrow.

Or hack saw across the face of the nut and split it open with a chisel.

Was down your way this morning and wondered how your Elise was doing - if you like I can pop down tomorrow (Sunday) and help with the attack. There's a press in Lawrence's garage if you want to remove the wishbone.

Cheers,
Robin

Hi both

Thanks for your replies both. Yes I could split the nut off. Never thought of that. D'oh!

Robin - the offer of help is much appreciated but need to do family stuff tomorrow. Maybe can find a time sometime in the next few weeks when I could get the stuff prepped then you could help me get access to that press. I'll PM you in the week.

Cheers

Tim

OK - easiest if you give me a shout on the mobile - you no doubt have it, but just in case you've lost your phone or eaten your SIM in an attempt to evade surveillance it's 07973 391 393.
