Coolant expansion tank

Do you have to drain all of the coolant before replacing the expansion tank, or can you just remove what's inside the bottle, crimp the hoses, and top up once the new one is installed?

You can just remove the tank and refill later. Rather than crimp off the lower hose you can just hang it up in the air above the top of the engine if possible - that way you won't get any air into the coolant. When cold, obvz.
