Exige hardtop on an Elise???

Post by das882 » Fri Mar 11, 2016 11:19 pm

What is the consensus of opinion about fitting a Exige hardtop on an Elise? I have been offered a Exige top at a very very good price, although there are no brackets or fixings it would end up being less than half the going rate for an Elise one. I might think about modifying it more like the tapered Lotus Hardtops.com one.

Personally I think it'll look a bit odd on an Elise as the roof scoop will just stop at the back of the roof. Why are you wanting to ditch the soft top anyway?

Seen one on a car at the LEGS breakfast event couple of months back, whilst not ideal it didn't look too out of place. Just go for it. I would say function beats form in this case.

Depends on what your reasons are for wanting one. I'm more of a no rain - no roof type..
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

I prefer the look of the car with the hardtop, it is also a bit more secure....not that it would be much of a problem up here though. My car has air con so on the few occasions that the weather might be good enough to take the roof off it would not be a problem + if it was that nice I would probably take my R1200RT anyway!!!
I agree with Neil's comment about the duct just stopping at the back so it's either modify it as I said before or come up with a story that it creates more downforce at the back of the car !!! :)

Was there never a factory hard top option for the S2?

Think my hard top is factory and I've seen a few. Mike has one too but the colour is slightly off. [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

A factory hard top at the right price would indeed be tempting as I'm mid way through a short roof conversion on my long roof S2 ;)

They were cheaper than the S1 hard tops as they are smaller. Watch ebay

I had one with my S2 111s. It was only ever on though when the car was going down to MMC and I knew it would be parked outside for a few days.

The fixings don't look cheap! You can see the parts diagram and pricing here - http://www.deroure.com/diagrams.asp?TBL ... 0&ST=&SC=0
