Hi,
My friend has a 1987 Morgan Plus 8 (Rover 3.5 V8) and the car is suffering from a constant smell of fuel/burnt fuel.
I drove the car today and whilst it starts up instantly, no smoke and pull really well, there's a smell of fuel.
It's been put on the rolling road today and checked over but no faults found.
Exhaust is good and there's no evidence of leaking fuel.
Any suggestions for fault finding or anyone with experience of this V8?
Many thanks
G

Re: Morgan plus 8
Fuel smell suggests fuel leak.
Exhaust fuel smell suggests it's running too rich. If it's been on a rolling road, that may not identify if it's running rich.
It might also just be that it's an old car with an old engine. The rover V8 originates in the 1940s IIRC as a boat engine. A 1980's car will not have a catalytic converter, so compared to modern cars, will have a bit of a stinky exhaust at the best of times.
Edit: RPM (Russell Paterson) in Perth is the morgan specialist - may be worth a shout

Morgan plus 8
I used to get that on my Evo and it was an exhaust manifold leak, very hard to find but black suit around where it's leaking eventually gave it away. There was a very strong burnt fuel smell inside the car.

Told you it was a shed!
Bring it over one night if you want?
