Final assembly of steering arms this morning with some spacers to allow more movement. Anyway ready to test...

Image

...but no driver as he's out with his mum buying paint. So starting on some basic body work. Plans have been cut back a little due to time.

Image

And had time to fit better suspension. These bushes very kindly donated by Callum and Willie at Craig Moncrieff Cars after they rummaged around in response to my slightly bizarre request for rubber bushes. Thanks guys!!! They are old suspension bushes off a Dodge Hemi Truck. Niiiice! More importantly we now have a little deflection in the rear which might just save it over the jumps.

Image

Then rain stopped play....
Image

In a brief stop in the rain we went for the first test! First we had an issue. In its built form we could get it through the house or down the side of the house. So it had to go over! :-D

Image

First run showed some steering toe in which was not helping and making it hard to steer. Quick adjustment and it's a lo better. The rack is still way way to fast so it's s but twitchy. Too late to change though. Should make landings off the jump a bit sketchy. Hold on tight!! ...oh and we also established that Mummy freaked out at the first sign of the cart gathering some speed. :lol

It's now pouring with rain :-( not good for further work.

Love the "Er, it's trapped in the back garden" moment!

Thankfully our Elise is mobile so it's been evicted for the last couple of weeks. Poor thing got drenched last night. But I cleared up for her this morning...

You'd never know there's been a major construction project in there!

It's all getting a bit blue peter now. :-D

Rear arches and and simple front panel are as far as we're going to be able to get in the time.

Rear wheel arch construction.
Image

As they might get wet and in order that maybe might last the day I've covered them in PVA before painting. But the humid day is resulting in long drying times. :-( We got some quick drying paint so hopefully we'll get to that just as Campbell and team are doing their first practice runs. I've got s feeling ill be driving up first thing with the windows open...lol

Image

These are going to need some bracing but at least we'll have some bat wings, kind of essential on a bat mobile! :cry

Yes, seat belt is being sorted this afternoon. :thumbsup

We had a brace of kids birthday party's to attend this afternoon. So I'm frustratingly not able to do anything just now. Will get back later and paint and hopefully everything's dry. :-D

Last instalment before the race. We kind of lost sight of the body work as we were cramming the chassis build in. This resulted in a rather hasty body work build between kids parties today. We were finally halted tonight by running out of paint. Good job really or it would have been a very late one. We should have probably painted the chassis (have an idea for some upgrades tomorrow) but in general times up. Not bad for three weeks of evenings and weekends and the odd day off.

Now fitted with seat belt, towing points front and rear and its bat wings. :-) Had to find time between rain showers.

And now all packed up in the car ready for the run north tomorrow. :thumbsup

And.... relax! :-D

Race day here we come!!

Good luck for tomorrow (/today), great seeing the build threads and all the effort and more importantly the fun and family bonding elements.
As per my expectations due to holding our wedding anniversary party tonight, I'd no chance at being at the Speed festival Sunday in any kind of reasonable state or any chance of driving to the event.

Looking forward to a commentary and post event photos and video.

Team Gravity did have a near Calamity. 2nd run, pilot Gregor was looking to shave off a few more tenths and picked a novel line through the chicane. Up and over the haybales. Caught at a slight angle, next came a roll onto its side which tested the strength of the (clearly VERY strong) cart and the grit of driver Greg. Let's hear it for seatbelts too!! Swiftly righted by the crowd, rally stage stylee, he was back on his way. Apparently unscathed. And sure to make it into the "RDSF Best Bits Christmas Compilation".

Bravo Greg.

Oh and we haven't seen his Mum shift that fast in years ;-)

Sounds brilliant. Is there any footage of the pedigree race machine in action?

Team FMC's cameraman didn't catch it, he only filmed ours and a couple of other teams from what I can see. If there is any footage, Team Gravity Calamity may deem it unsuitable for broadcast, much like the Olympic women's road cycling that went badly wrong :-/

I didn't take may photos at the weekend unusually, but here are 2 I did get

Didn't get any of Team Gravity Calamity, but was first on the scene of the actual calamity as the SE crowd were stood just down from the chicane. Both teams, especially the drivers, did very well.
