Engine Oil - VHPD
Engine Oil - VHPD
I've tried using the search function but haven't come up with much.
The Lotus handbook states 10W/60 or 15W/50.
I realise things move on with oils but would be interested to hear what folks would recommend for the VHPD?
Cheers!

Mine is not VHPD, but I use this stuff (usually I buy 5l, but can't see that on Opie's website); http://www.opieoils.co.uk/search/go?lbc ... nd%3afuchs

Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
Cannot remember the viscosity but I used a Millar oi.
I remember it was red in colour that would turn a lovely milkshake pink when the dreaded HGF happened. It was more susceptible to water absorption and had to be changed every 6k. I think the manufacturer changed the branding at one point. Someone else will remember the type based on the "RED" color

Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Thanks guys, looking at Opie Oils for options.
Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
I agree with Dom and that is a great spec of oil but it is quite pricey.
I usually go for the PETRONAS Syntium Racer X1 Fully Synthetic version of this which is a 10w 60 oil and comes up on offer for £27 for 4 litres with Euro Car Parts from time to time. I think it's about £30 for 4 litres delivered with car parts for less which is a ECP subsidiary just now.

Having used various I settled on using the Fuchs Titan stuff from Opie.

Castrol do a high sheer rate 10/60 designed for BMW because the m5 used to throw rods hence the Castrol oilmwmackenzie wrote:Would treacle not be best in there?? I believe Castrol do a 10/60 as do Gulf, my mate used it in his M3, 15/50 do Mobil motorsport not do this?

Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
The 60 temp rating is important for turbo cars. For the VHPD either 50 or 60 should be fine.

Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
The oil I use has a very high sheer rate with a HTHs of around 5.3 cp
typical 5/40 oil can be around 3.5 cp with low friction economy oils having around 2.9 cp
The high sheer rate is for bearing protection .On my TM supermoto the shear rate (rock oil xrp ) l use is 7.0cp again in a 10/60 ,

I seem to remember using Comma Motorsport in the Toxic Frog. Alan will be able to confirm if it stopped wear/bearing failure....

There's a great review of oil by David with his Duratec. I actually changed manufacturer after some of his findings. It's in the search day somewhere...

Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
I used Mobil 1 0w40 for years. No idea what's in it now!!!

Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
Worth noting that 10w40 is what the manual specifies for a standard K. Richard is correct that the manual for the VHPD states 10w60 or 15w50.

Re: Engine Oil - VHPD
Bit of a bump but im looking to drop the oil before the next trackday im doing on the 25th. Standard K-series with the PTP140 kit on it. The Fuchs Titan stuff looks like a good shout but im not sure what viscosity i should go with.
