windscreen fitting issues

Post by sparrow1776 » Sun May 07, 2017 9:46 pm

I recently had the windscreen on my S1 replaced by Autoglass. Unfortunately they did a rather bad job of fitting the new screen. They also managed to scrape paint off the windscreen frame (and didn't bother to say anything!) Long story short I have got them to agree to allow a specialist to replace the poorly fitted one and to sort out the scratches.

A friend of mine pointed out today that the windscreen which Autoglass fitted is from a different manufacturer to that the side windows.

How can I tell if the windscreen which was fitted by Autoglass is an OEM part or whether it is an aftermarket part? If it is an aftermarket part would this make a difference to how the windscreen fits?

The windscreen they fitted is manufactured by Pilkington and the side windows (which I assume are the original ones) are manufactured my Starglass. After doing an internet search for Starglass I am unable to find any information on them.

Any clarification anyone can provide would be much appreciated. :?

Cheers
Gail

Pilkington are one of the largest glass manufacturers, so I'd suspect it is to OE standard. Starglass is probably long gone.

OEM part number B111B0037F cross refers to Pilkington part 9341 so it should be correct.

Thanks 111Robin. The 9341 code is not included in any of the codes printed on the windscreen which was confusing me. I contacted Pilkington who told me that the 9341 part number is an ARGIC code. Apparently it does not get printed on the windscreen but instead on a sticker which is removed when the windscreen is fitted.

I had my S1 windscreen replaced a couple of years back.
The part number listed on my invoice is 9341AGNGN and HT9341LT.
Mine was done by National Windscreens in Dundee (paid by me and claimed back from my insurance) after Autoglass didn't bother to tell me that they wouldn't fit it with the front clam on until the day they came to fit it! I then had the clam removed and they had a wait time of over a month for a new appointment, so I called around and got National Windscreens in 3 days later.

3 guys came to fit it, in 2 vans! They did a great job.
