Toyota 2ZZ - oil control valve

Post by a4drk » Sat Sep 23, 2017 7:33 pm

I've got a problemwirh my Exige cutting out / red light coming on/ when the cam change kick in -
Same as when it's cold........but engine is hot ... it usually happens on track days or driving up the A70 while it's getting it's ass kicked.
I want to change the oil control valve - is there only one of them ?
Any help much appreciated

Cheers
David

Check fuses on firewall mate.. in engine compartment on passenger side, one of them is for the cam change and if blown will prevent second cam kicking in ;) :thumbsup

There will be one per bank, so yes, just one on an inline 4. Fault code will be P0011 for bank 1 (P0021 for bank 2, which doesn't apply for the 2zz).

Pull it out and check if it has a mesh screen that's blocked before you order a new one. Also check the supply lines for any kinks or starvation issues.

Apologies, I didn't check.

There are indeed two, one for variable timing, one for variable lift. Same part. Try swapping them over and see if the symptoms change.
