S1 Exhaust / Cat

Post by Kinger » Sat Nov 25, 2017 1:10 pm

Hi,

I've had an issue since my last track day at Cadwell Park. Initially I thought I had an induction leak as I has a loud hissing noise when accelerating hard above 3000rpm plenty of power but loud, everything was fine below 3000rpm. Checked all of the induction side including inlet manifold gasket and all ok.
After taking the under tray off it was apparent I had a leak at the manifold to flexi pipe joint. Sealed that leak OK but developed another leak at joint where the flexi pipe joins the Cat. Sorted that leak and took the car out for a blast this morning. Nice and quite, thought that was it sorted but when I push above 3000rpm the engine just seems to run out of puff. My thinking now is the Cat may have collapsed or something similar.

I'm currently thinking if I can borrow a de-cat pipe to either confirm or eliminate the Cat as

Appreciate your thought's and advice if you think I'm looking down the wrong track.

I have a decat pipe as well you are welcome to borrow Graham - I think I also have a spare lambda / O2 sensor as on the S1 the sensor is located at the joint of the manifold & flexy and I wonder if maybe this sensor could have got damaged with the gasket failing??

Thanks eveyone's help,

Problem now resolved. I bought a new Cat, when I took the old one off it was obvious where the problem lay. The old one had completely collapsed internally.

Good to get the S1 back as it should be.
