FAO Evora owners - uprated headlight bulbs

Post by mik » Sun Jan 21, 2018 11:02 pm

Rather than post info again, thought i would just link to this on TLF.

I've used Osram Silverstar and Nightbreaker Halogen bulbs in the past and always been pleased with the results. I had no idea until recently that they had introduced Nightbreaker versions of HID bulbs too.

Just fitted a pair - easy job - see above link for details.

Beware with those Osram bulbs - Im sure there are fakes kicking about.
It was on Fake Britain.
Pretty sure it was that bulb
Make sure you buy off a reputable seller - ie avoid ebay

Illegal as I understand it. Blinds other drivers as no auto-levelling.

Or so I heard.

Bulbs coming from Auto Bulbs Direct. Used them a few times. Ta for tip off tho.

You also need to have headlamp washers

And the new MOT rules from this summer specifically ban retrofitted hid bulbs.

1. Got these on Amazon. The boxes have hologrammed ID stickers with a unique code for each bulb that you can verify on their website. All checked out fine. The Osram website also shows bulb markings you can verify.

B. The Evora has HIDs as std. These are legal e-marked replacement HID bulbs that provide more light.

Yep all good there. We were going x-purpose with good ol halogens there!

I'd love HIDs on the TTD but daft money to do it right.

Shall post findings ref new halogen nightbreakers all the same.

There are HID's on the Evora? It's a shame the Exige still just has a couple of candles which look impossible to upgrade as they've used HB3A bulbs.

My 2004 TT 225 had HID's, had to replace one for the MOT.

In fact I think I ended up with two sets so may have a spare in the garage.

tut

ps:- also have a spare HID dipped for an S2 Elise/Exige as had to replace one on N3.

LED and laser is where its at. The loaner wagon has LED and they are very crisp.

I'd still be tempted with aftermarket and then swap them over at MOT time. 340rr had them and it was literally night and day.

Actually do you not get LED H4s now?

I upgraded the bulbs on mine. Slightly different shape connector. The replacements have a 90 degree bend whereas the originals are straight but it worked nonetheless. Biggest difference though was raising the beam height.

Which bulbs did you go for D, and will you still pass an M.O.T. after raising the beam height?

What’s the difference between HB3 and HB3A bulbs?
