I'm going to get the elise back on the road

After 5 long years of it sitting there doing nothing I am going to get her back on the road.

Thing is she has sat for all that time :(

1. Get the wheels turning
2. Get her started
3. Replace all fluids
4. Get her road legal.

Tonight's job was free off the brakes and try and double check some electrical stuff.
Brakes have been free'd but the plan is to pull the disks off and give them a rub to clear off the rust (MMC's) and fit new pads.
I popped the plugs out to try and get her to turn over but as expected nothing, fuel pump didn't even prime :(

Looking for suggestions on things to check, replace etc. I can see this list getting very long.

Alternator will have seized for sure.

Everything else will need checked.

Can swing by after work one evening?

Get it over to Craig Moncrief as a winter project. It worked for Vicky, I never thought she would ever run again. At least your car is still intact with all the bits.

I will probably pull the alternator off and rebuild it, a wee job for a rainy day when the kids are in bed.
Cheers, I might just give you a bell when I go to do something big that I can do some major damage too. I am not getting a lot of time do anything right now it's mainly tinkering.

This is tempting, After the tinkering, I might just do that ready for 2019.

Tonights tinkering

The battery is probably gubbed, but I expect corrosion of the earthing isn't helping. I connected the jump leads up to the starter motor and I had the fuel pump prime. But only a click from the starter.

Pulled the starter motor off last night (I really should take pictures) It's in the process of being stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. The brushes look ok as does everything else, unfortunately.

Anyone know who makes them so I can get spares?

It has a rover sticker and part number on it and the but the solenoid has Magneti Marelli written on it.

Edit: After a bit of digging it's a Lucas M78R that is fitted. Everything is stamped Magneti Marelli. The brushes are hardly worn so I will just clean and rebuild.

Ok for the past week and a bit, I have been working on the starter motor. Nothing too taxing or fancy so far just a strip, clean, refinish, check, make shiny and fit new brushes. To be honest the brushes weren't in that bad condition but I had to change something to justify the time spent on something that probably worked anyway.

The alternator tents to have the rotor and stator corrode together. Stick it in a vice and see if it will turn using a breaker bar on the shaft nut.

Ok back at this again, starter has been refitted and is now the only shiny thing in the engine bay. Downside is I have forgotten where some of the connectors go so if anyone has any pictures it would be greatly appreciated.

New battery has been fitted, new battery earth strap and new battery terminals. It turns out the positive terminal had corroded in half so cleaned that up.

The starter does fire up (woo) but the fuel pump doesn't prime :(

Finally I have got fat and getting in and out is a nightmare!

Good luck getting it back on the road.
I need to do mine too.
