Hardtops

Post by thesurfbus » Mon Sep 03, 2018 10:49 am

Looking for a hardtop for my Elise S3, just want to confirm that its the same as an S2 (Short Tail).
Should I be looking for a genuine Lotus hardtop or are the aftermarket versions just as good e.g. LotusHardTops.
And finally does anyone have one for sale, ideally in Starlight Black?

There is a very reasonably priced hardtop for sale on Pistonheads, wrong colour but price seems very keen at £300.

£300 is very cheap sold both mine for £550.

Will fit S3 think that one is missing a big front cover (full width) and some rear clamp covers. Can't remember if front strip aids clamping or just cosmetic, rear corner bits are just cosmetic.
Also from 2003ish they became lined and a bit later a middle rear clamp was added. Rear clamp bit unnecessary (maybe helped squeaks) but double lining was useful.

Don't know about after market Lotus Hardtops seem to get a good name but no chat about their hardtops.

For a non colour match, a wrap should be a cheap option.

I was looking for ages and decided to bite the bullet and order a genuine lotus hardtop in matt black. Cost me a few quid but well worth it, have driven the car a lot more since it was installed, no wind noise now!

you could speak to a lotus dealer and ask them to tick the hard top box on the next elise they order (as long as the elise customer doesn't want one), it might mean you get one a bit cheaper?

I did see that Silver hardtop on PH, but by the time I add shipping, painting and the buying the bits that appear to be missing, I may as well wait for one in the correct colour.
Other option is to buy the lotushardtops version and put a matt black wrap on it then matt wrap my boomerang (roll bar cover) or whatever its called :D
