Car Entertainment

Post by C7Steve » Sat Sep 15, 2018 12:48 pm

Just fitted the Focal 100 AC speakers to the front of the Exige and this has made a good improvement over the clarity and soundstage. I will do the rear speakers, passengers footwell subwoofer and a better Headunit at a later date.

I used this guide over on the Lotus Forums.

https://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/t ... 6s/?page=4

Front Speakers https://www.focal.com/en/car-audio/car- ... its/100-ac

Rear Speakers https://www.focal.com/en/car-audio/car- ... its/130-ac

I might get these two-way rears, as the harness belts straps sit directly in front of the speaker/tweeter position, so moving the tweeters higher up makes sense.

I have been looking at various better Headunits, but still have to check the clearance for use with the phone or 7-inch monitor. I used the TomTom 5200 SatNav during the Frolic which was great, but it would be good to have navigation incorporated within the new Headunit. The TomTom had ‘live updates’ and this was very useful driving through England and any roadwork/accident incidents. I have only used Google Maps too, so not sure what else if anything is worth using instead. Waze?

A few of the units that I have looked at.

Pioneer 8700 DAB £140

This unit which has just been released and looks promising and the cradle for the phone appears that it would clear the dashboard area below the central vents.

Pioneer SPH-10BT £130

This is a 1-Din unit with a 7-inch monitor. £520

That 10BT model is really clever and great value.

I love the simple mechless unit I currently have but if I was doing more miles esp Touring then I'd snap one up. Perfect for an Elise.

That 10BT might not work in an S2/V6 because of the overhang above the head unit. Apparently if you have a flip front the unit can need to sit out a little so the screen can clear it. Flip fronts also hit the indicator stall apparently. I'd very much like to find a solution that works. 👍

Ferg,

It looks like there is enough room.

Watch on YouTube

I have read that to have a single-din with a motorised screen that it will hit the left hand indicating stalk if left in the normal position, but if you raise the stalk up, it will miss it. Just open the monitor before driving off.

I found this picture of a one din unit with the monitor out in an Exige. The covering of the top vents concerns me.

I have just noticed the volume controls, but not sure if that is on the new cars or it’s an auxiliary volume control that comes with the updated headunit.

Note than single DIN unit appears to be sticking out a little.

I don't know for sure but it does look tight.

Vent wise it's going to be a case of keeping them shut.

Very interesting in your findings if you go for it. I agree that a fitted nav unit would be cool. 👍

Lotus missed a real opportunity to create a 2 DIN aperture, at least in the Exige dash.

Anyway...

I really like the look of the 10BT. My stereos on the way out and that looks like an ideal replacement. The only thing it's missing that I'd want is DAB.

Simply Sports Cars in Oz actually sell a Double DIN conversion kit which give you half height vents at the top. The price is a bit eye watering though at £600. https://www.simplysportscars.com/shop/a ... roup_23=84

If you spec Nav on an Exige, which I believe you can, what do you get?
