Headlight issue - Motorbike rather than Lotus

Post by ed » Fri Nov 09, 2018 5:55 pm

One for Robin perhaps.....

I am having issues with my bike headlight. (CB500F Honda)

At the moment at low revs and low speed the headlight cuts out occasionally. Higher speed it never happens. I do not believe it is a loose connection.

My bike headlight has a relay that kills the power to the headlight when the ignition is pressed. Could a faulty relay kill the power during low speed low rev scenarios? :scratch

My guess is that your battery is dying. When the alternator is at low revs its output drops off. Normally the battery would keep the light on anyway, but if it's a bit crap it might not be able to (could be the relay dropping out for pretty much the same reason).

Happy to take a look if you want to pop round one day/evening.

Cheers,
Robin

Honda Regulator Rectifiers are notoriously crap so may not be outputting 14V to the battery.

Give Davie at bells burn a calll, he might be able to diagnose over the phone if it’s a common fault
