On another note. There were recent reports of very 'crashy' front end from single way Nitrons. Something to do with how the shocks valving react to sudden and short sharp shocks. Now this sounds normalish for Nitrons but maybe it's exacerbated on a heavier car like the V6? I'd definitely like simple single adjustment if possible. Still a long way away at this point though.
I’ve been reading similar, have asked seriously lotus if their spec of 1 way damper suffers from this issue also. Doesn’t list the spec difference on his website so I have asked the question.
Have you the link to where you have read this?
Steve.

It’s mentioned in various project threads on TLF Steve and also in the V6 Suspension section. Not sure if it’s limited to the 1 ways or if it’s all Nitrons though

I am on the Lotus Forums too, so surprised that I missed it.

Just got a reply from seriously Lotus regarding the Nitrons they offer, reply below
“Hello Simon
Sorry for the delay, found your email in spam for some reason
Main differences are the rear damper lengths.
The Lotus/Nitron versions are too long.....When fitting them the rear suspension needs forcing down to get the dampers to fit, quite why they did this is a mystery!!! The damper will NEVER EVER use that part of its stroke, so we had them made the correct length, which means they are lighter and they can also carry a 1 inch shorter spring, that is also lighter.
At the same time we had the damping tweaked (not much but a small adjustment)
Lead time is typically 2-3 weeks from confirmed orders
Hope this helps
Regards
Dave”
Wonder if the longer dampers are what are causing the noises some people have described?

That extra 1” of travel they’ve removed is droop travel.
Back in the day, the standard nitrons had very little droop travel. Basically, if you jacked the car up, the wheel would come off the ground quite quickly. The Randy/Hoffman’s nitrons had much more droop travel (and helper springs to force the wheel down) which gave increased traction to the inside rear wheel.
I have no clue about V6 nitrons specs, but just be sure you don’t need that extra droop travel before you get rid of it

Simon, you should ask Randy (Chris) the same question to see what the Hoffman spec is.

Droop. Gotta love it.
And a good point well made. All joking apart. Think early damper upgrades for S1’s had some issue around this with no helper springs.

I have just had my geo changed and it’s much better now. Waiting for a rainy day and the next trackday to see how it compares in these scenarios too.
I also found this website which has lots of interesting information accessed via the sub forums tag.

I'm sorry maybe its just me but that sounds like complete bollocks. Lotus wouldn't spec Nitrons 1" too long, they just wouldn't, and as Campbell eluded they are renowned for their ride and handling. For sure they will be a compromise in some way but really!

That droop travel was actually awesome. You could get the front inside wheel to lift up but the rears were still in contact with the ground and driving the car forward. The car had no power, mind you, which always helps the handling

Has anyone fitted nitrons yet? I've just failed the MOT on a rear shock and the price of a replacement makes nitrons look good value
