Exhaust back box - Exige S1

Looks like I need a replacement backbox as mine evidently has sooty leaks over the backbox and noticeable underneath where the diffuser meets the next section of undertray. So my question is the Exige backbox different to the Elise or are they compatible? I'm guessing not - Exige has a longer rear clam?

Yep I think Exige boxes had longer tailpipes. Not sure if any other structural changes were made though.

Yep. The only change if buying aftermarket is finding someone who does the longer pipes required to clear the clam. Otherwise your clam with get toasty. I had a lot of success on both my Elise and Exige with the Elise Parts exhaust. The only difference between the two was the the tail pipe lnegth which was an interchangeable part.

The original janspeed was used on the S1 Elise as well, but with a twin pipe end trim clamped on instead of the exige single oval.
I'd imagine it's unlikely you'd find a great example of either now though

Thanks for the replies folks, I meant to post some more info on the exhaust currently on the car. So whilst up on the ramps getting an oil change over at Dreadnought the undertrays off of course the exhaust system can be seen more clearly.
The backbox has what appears to be drain hole around 2mm in size in the bottom and lowest point of the system. Now there is no rust on exhaust around here but black soot is coming out from this hole and whipping up the back of the silencer towards the tailpipes. There is also evidence of a leak although very small from the flexi section, but very minor.
So my query is this an exhaust problem or not. Or is it just because the car is running rich? I was kind of hoping this was evidence of an exhaust leak, I can justify treating the car to a 2ubular or similar and that would help cure the rich running. Having chatted to Stainless Creations in Falkirk - super helpful folks - he was suggesting perhaps not an issue with the exhaust itself. So where to go from here, new exhaust anyway!?

There shouldn't be a leak. Sounds like a repair would hold for a bit but nothing like getting a stainless system to take that off the worry list

Thanks Ferg, that's all I need for the 2ubular approval form

So by way of update I'm really rather pleased the new 2bular system has been fitted and in doing so fixed the running rich issues I had, reason being the back box had developed a hole where the tail pipe bracket is/was attached and the Flexi had a significant leak too. Result

Worth every penny and the cost can go in the repair column rather than the upgrade column to keep the Mrs prepped for the next 'upgrade'

sorry to have missed this, but I have an original S1 Exige silencer (very good condition, covered just 2k miles before being removed)

- if you wanted to keep things original - let me know if your interested? - Β£50 plus shipping should do.

Sorry for the post interruption!
I could really do with that exhaust for my S1 - let me know if I can buy it for my S1 before my clam goes on fire !
Thanks

S1 Exige tailpipe shorter than Elise version I think, due to recessed clam design?
So unless I missed a bit about the exits being adjustable, then this one more likely to set your clam on fire than the current one

Reading above the Exige is longer no? And the tailpipes ware interchangeable between Elise and Elise, with the lengths being the difference.
So this should fit and if it needs tailpipes thatβs no biggie?
