Scottish Elises

It seems like a bit of a chinese puzzle - I am sure there is a way, but I cannot quite see what that way is ... I have the cylinder head removed, so plenty of clearance, but whether I attack from top or bottom I cannot the pipe in

Anyone on here fitted one and know how to do it? (S2 elise, though pretty sure it would be almost identical problem on S1 elise).

Almost certain that it is from underneath, in fact just quickly phoned Scuffers.

Unbolt right hand engine mount and underneath steady bar, move engine a bit, and that will give clearance off the studs.

Been there done that.... Pig isn't it Mine was heat wrapped too, covered in sharp wire and fiberglass!

I got it in from below with alot of fiddling and swearing. Disconnect the bottom engine mount (If you havent already) and keep on wiggling. Mine would have been slightly easier as my coolant pipe runs over the top of the manifold. Took a couple of hours just to get fitted properly.

When you do get it in then for gods sake find someone to hold it while you get the nuts on. It is highly frustrating on your own as the weight of it makes it swing away from the head and come off the studs.....

Something you might want to consider as well is an Eliseparts uprated bottom mount, only about £30. The flexi in my 4-2-1 is only 2" long and the engine has been moving up to 1" (you can tell as the VVC inlet manifold rubs on the back deck!) the uprated mount eliminates almost all of the movement but it does give a little more vibration on start and at very low revs.

Edit: The filter stayed on throughout and I only disconnected the bottom engine mount.

Nope, you have the engine end of it, you need the other end.

I'll keep the rad for emergencies if you're not using it.

The seal on the oil filter is one shot. If you remove it, you should never refit it. They are so cheap that it really doesn't make any sense to reuse one anyway, just annoying that this one has been fitted but engine not even turned over! Anyway, if Rich managed to get his fitted without removing oil filter, I will try that first too.

As I say the main difference should just be the lower coolant pipe, if this is in the way you may have to go for Tut's suggestion of the other engine mount....
