...refit my throttle cable at the throttle body end, as it came loose on a drive back from Crieff (limped it home from Stonehaven with what felt like only mm's of travel left on the pedal) and only just getting round to looking at it now.

Could you attach or e-mail some pics of your throttle cable from the locknuts at holding clamp beside throttle body and then cable going round the 'half moon' on the throttle body itself?

Assuming you are running a standard Rover K series throttle body I could send you pics of my S1 throttle body and cable if that would help too.

Cables have been known to snap......

Looks like the cables slipped out of the retaining bracket shown in your 4th photo, should be a quick fix to shove it back into the slot on the bracket between the two nuts on the threaded part of the cable then tighten up the lock nut [left hand nut] to secure it onto the bracket.

Had another look at your photos and it looks like the cables not been fitted to the bracket between the two nuts and that’s why it’s came loose. If it’s been a new cable that’s been fitted it may have been done like that to take up the slack in the cable( thread on Seloc mentioned new cables may be longer than the originals)

adjust the nuts on the end of the cable (that were not properly tightened by the person that fitted it) so that the throttle fully closes, but only just . . . there should be almost no slack in the cable.

Don't induce any twist in the cable itself when locking the nuts . . .

Looks like the cable end is out of the cam for the throttle body as well. Need to insert the cable end into the plastic cam before re-installing the cable tensioner.
