New discs and pads a tad noisy

Post by macca16 » Thu Dec 21, 2023 5:27 pm

Hello, I got new discs and pads on the S1 a few months back at CMC and noted they were making a light rubbing noise even after ~150 miles.

Having a little time to https://www.lotustalk.com/threads/brak ... ing.69319/ read up this past week, it seems it might be not unusual.

Doesn’t seem to drag noticeably and wheels spin freely albeit not without some noise when jacked up.

Is it likely just “one of the many sounds the Elise makes”, as noted in the above post? I don’t think it’s loud enough to be pad chatter, but it definitely make me cringe when I hear it at low speed through the village.

If it’s from the front it’s probably the aluminum stone guard rubbing very slightly. My S1 does it frequently, a little push on the right place and it’s gone. Good luck.

Hard to pinpoint when on the move but both near side wheels make some noise when rotated and jacked.

Found audio taken with the phone pointed towards the passenger window, but can’t upload it here it seems.

Will check the stone guard. Thanks!

Kinger, that was indeed the issue, thanks for the tip!

You will occasionally get small stones stuck between the disk and the metal guard. It makes a horrible scraping noise. I quick blip in reverse usually does the trick.
