S1 S160 no starty

So having got the car back Thursday from CV boot replacement it's now not starting.

Am I right in saying the coil pack is mounted at the rear of the engine (RHS) under the inlet manifold?

Could the sprayed out grease from the old split CV boot onto the coil pack be the cause of not starting?

Is a coil pack an easy to change part (thinking access)

TIA :thumbsup

Hi Ross,

I’ve just changed mine, my car has a single coil. Some of the vvc cars have two coils. It was a bit of a pain getting access, I had to remove the flexi pipe from the exhaust to gain access. You can only get to it from underneath a pain but easily do able, it’s only held in place by three bolts.

And I'd check the fuel shut off valve.

Think it's unlikely CV grease will have affected the coil tbh.

What symptoms do you have? Is it turning over and not firing? Have you checked for a spark?

Fuel pump priming, engine turning over, can smell fuel.

Most likely the battery is too weak so try jump starting it and if that fails try bypassing the imobiliser. These are the two things that have prevented mine from starting in the past.

There's an earth strap between the gearbox and the passenger side longeron

Cheers Stephen - best accessed from top (removing air box) or bottom (removing rear undertray)?

Also worth checking all the HT system if there's no spark. I had bother various times with the dizzy cap & rotor arm and a dodgy set of brand new Bosch leads.

OK so just had the AA man out (might as well) and he's been through it and recommends new plugs and possibly a dizzy cap.

Battery is strong, and fuel is definitely getting through.

Plugs are a minefield - S160 supplement says Champion RC9 but anything online says NGK - PFR6N-11 seem to figure when I search. Can anyone please confirm if this is correct?

And dizzy cap - just a std K series one?

Thanks in advance :thumbsup

Did the AA man get it to start?

Pretty much the same plug but different brand. The Dizzy cap is standard rover. If you are getting a cap, get a new rotor arm too.
Have you checked the plug holes in the head are not full of water?
