Flooding

Quick question - maybe a stupid one but here goes!

Is there any way to stop there being 2 inches of water getting into the footwells - Or should it be that Lotus provide bilge pumps in the car to remove this?

All the roof and window seals have been adjusted - so I assume it's coming in through the tub?

Can the tub be made more watertight?

Drill holes in the floor?

It's all the rage with the Caterham folk and saves weight!

Is that one of the S2 upgrades over the S1

Nope - mine's a 2002 S2!- same as yours!

yep - I think it's coming up through the floor - seems to be coming from behind the seats and over into the footwells! It's not coming through the roof - i've adjusted the windows and seals round the roof

My S2 doesnt leak either and its a 2001 model. If you still have it under warranty with MMC then ask them to look at it. the first roof we had leaked terribly and it transpired that it was a problem with the roof itself. they swapped it to a black (original was blue) under warranty and we have never looked back. Occassionaly in the really really torrential rain we will get a drip but thats all.

Warranty? Don't have one! But thanks anyway!

When my S2 was new (2004 MY) it leaked loads - it filled up above the carpets after one particularly rainy night. Went back to MMC and they had a 4 page guide to all the places that they leak (!!) and it got sorted under warranty. I think it was leaking from somewhere around the base of the windscreen and running down the bulkhead in front of the pedals/passenger foot rest. It looks like they sealed it up with some kind of gunk (silicon??) from one of those tubes that have a gun-type attachment.

If you're not under warranty, i can only suggest you spend some time with a hose spraying water about to work out where it's coming in, then get some bodging done...

As a previous thread indicated I was suffering the same in my S1.
Looked like it was coming down the bulkhead and without taking the clam off didn't look like could be sealed. Took it to MMc in Edinburgh who 4hrs later seemed to have prpblem fixed sighting the doors and windows. I was sceptical at first but all credit to MMC even despite the wet october my floor is still dry. (Touch wood!)
Just need to sort out my leaking house now!!

How easy is it to remove the seats? Thoughts from MMC is that the water is coming up through the chassis? Which appears to be where the water is - you can see it pouring in in the passenger footwell!

They offered to take the seats out and reseal it all! However - with labour rates of $1million per hour I think I should give it a go over Christmas!
My mum's offered me her Merc for a week and I have access to their garage for as long as i want! - surely it can't take even me longer than a week to ttake out the seats, reseal the tub and put the seats back in?

Thoughts?

Speak to JJ - he had the seats out of his S1 and replaced with the S2 variants.
