Hi folks, my throttle has been sticking open recently, and as i had an upgraded elise-shop linkage lying around, i thought i'd fit it in the hope it would solve my problems.
Turns out that the bit that is sticking is the original cable clip on the base plate. Has anyone ever had this before?? It seems to be worst when the throttle is just opened, like when driving along in traffic. when i lift off, the throttle stays on a touch, then either clicks off itself or i have to lift it from underneath.
Its only sticking at the very top of the travel, i.e. not fully open.

Mine was sticking as the bolt in the last but 1 piccy was too tight and was causing the black metal bit to stay twisted and not pointing back to the cable IYKWIM holding the throttle open. It was worse with loads of throttle as the black bit deflects more. It was lift off that was causing it, a quick lift off was fine. I slackened it a bit and it's fine now.
To diagnose, when it sticks put your foot under the pedal and pull it up. If it's cable related nothing will happen as the linkage can't "push" only pull. I had a large spring attached to the cable in the boot helping it close until i found the problem.

What he said - the bolt holding the black pull-arm is too tight.

Anyway since when did you start using part throttle?
the other thing that has just occurred to me is I was seeing the same thing with the black metal bit hitting the frame. I was going to turn the black bit over then file off the bits that contact. Should be bolt out-turn over-bolt in (In the Lotus position of course!) Linkage is simple enough just whip it out and have a good look-see. (fnarr fnarr!)

i have fixed that particular problem but discovered another one.
My throttle trunion is starting to stick. I have ordered a Moly/graphite based lube that should free up the pedal a little bit. Failing that i am going to replace the little throttle return spring with a 400lb spring off my nitrons

Neil, still having problems with this, any bright ideas?

Lowell,
the throttle problem as per the original post was fixed a long time ago, was just a case of fitting intolerances. I think the stickyness just now is down to a combination of lack of use, and wet weather. Give it a good blast with the graphite lube, which should dry it out properly, it'll go away.

This doesn't seem to be going away makign the car almost undriveable around town, try changing from 1st - 2nd pullign away from lights outside asda and it bouncing of the limiter
I have been under and lubed all the linkages with spray grease which has helped but i dunno if parts are just worn or theres something seriously amiss needing replacing, or its a case of TADTS..
Anyone in Aberdeen area familiar with this problem, i will try and get a good picture of the area concerned and highlight the problem.
got the first trackday on friday and unless its sorted i wont be doing it as its so inconsistant and on track i know it will drive me crazy!

Is this definitely just some stickyness in the linkage, or is it possibly catching on something??
The car sat outside my house in the rain without any use for about 3 weeks whilst we were to-ing and fro-ing, and i only noticed the sticky pedal on the way to deliver the car. It felt very much like it needed a good lube as weather had got in, as opposed to the original problem (that i fixed) over a year ago. Just make sure that it is this, and not something else that has broken since.
I cant find the link to the stuff i bought, but it was a moly based graphite spray lube, used for mountain bikes, and one squirt of it fixed this problem.

From this diagram it looks like its part 67 which looks like its awfully worn the actual pedal, dunno if thats all but what looks to be part 51- presumably thats where the throttle has done its turn and goes back through the bulkhead, looks like its sticking slightly, possibly catching on the plastic sleeve at the end of part 38 not allowing it to fully return?!
If that makes any sense at all, will go get a pic and mark it up!
