So the S2 has a rubbish heater, when travelling along the motorway when its 0deg C the heater just cant keep up with the HUGE volumes of cold air being forced into the heater matrix.
So I thought "why not block one of the two inlets on the crash structure up for the winter?"
Anyone else done this? Duct tape at the ready.
Brrrrrrrrr

Not actually done it yet but have thought about it.
Might try it for the car going back on the road in March.
If you do it sooner then let me know if it works.
Thanks

That might work James, but I'd be wary of there not being enough air when you are going slowly or stationery. Not that I'm saying it would do any damage. I just mean anough air to give some reasonable heat.
Might work in conjunction with taping over the passenger side low level vent.

is there really that much air coming through? feel the vents ...youll see there is v little. The matrix is simply too small and the fan too weak.
Therein lies your solution!

With fan @ position III all is ok when doing up to 40mph then u join motorway and the tootsies can immediately feel the cold air. I will try the duct tape at the weekend when I get back to sunny Scotland.

I read somewhere that there's holes in the tub/chassis that let air in at speed. You may wish to check for missing grommets/plugs and get busy with the Gaffer tape.

bottom of the foot well on the vertical bit is a series of holes these are to keep your feet nice and cold as early cars had a tenancy to need the heater to be turned down and under the new EU rules Section 13 of the Idiot act: people cannot be relied upon to operate the controls of a vehicle as they might not be able to concentrate on their speedo and be tempted to look where they are going instead. To avoid this cars now must either have the heater on or off but to avoid having to turn the heater down should it get too hot, it will make little difference to the actual temperature in the car as that would be a distraction too. As a result drivers and passengers are required to dress accordingly and must at all times wear the approved underwear. Failure to do so can and will result in prosecution and summary execution as the jails are full.

For those interested, I did the modification at the weekend. Blocked the offside vent using very sticky Duct tape carefully applied.
Today was the first Mway drive and it actually seems to have worked. Engine water temp is unaffected
