Sportscat

Post by Gareth » Fri Feb 23, 2007 10:41 am

What's the whole technical reason for having a sportscat?
Previously I've had the CRP which I had on for noise.

So looking to change noise and add a couple of ponies.
Next I'll change the Manifold.

Not wanting to fit a CRP to prevent the MIL light coming on and changing for MOT time.

Jim will have a better idea but isnt it something to do with better airflow and hence an increase in power?! :scratch

No MIL problems on mine so far with the decat, but a definite improvement in throttle response. And it sounds good, and flames. I would guess the sportscat will be similar but with better emissions.

The sports cat has larger holes through the cat material - still works as a cat but allows more gas flow.

JJ - you must have a MIL eliminator plugged in to 02 sensor #2 if your MIL isn't lit?

It will fail MOT and road-side emissions test without the cat though, unless you have an arrangement ...

Cheers,
Robin

Yes, eliseparts MIL eliminator in where it should be. Apparently it could still come on, sometimes a lot of cold starts can cause it, but its been fine so far. Dont think the sportscat would flame G as its still a CAT, just a free-er flowing one.

My newest one arrived today and the quality / finish is different class. Thumbs up.

edited to add; none are cheap - my exhaust, induction and decat would all retail at the best part of £800

Lot's of recommendations for 2bular.
I should add, it's not a case of being a sheep and following the rest.
For me, Abz has a huge lack of Engineering talent, something that Jim actually has. Products are top notch, sounds great and Jim gives great customer service. Hopefully one day, Abz will have a good car company for tuning/servicing etc. Having to travel to Edinburgh/Newcastle etc for such things is rediculous when you think how cash rich Aberdeen is.

Lot's of exotic cars in Abz and I can only assume these owners pay the OTT prices for main stream dealer servicing.

Agree with above r.e. the 2bular recommendations; I had a problem with my last exhaust and Jim has gone out his way to sort it, and when you open the box as I did this morning and check out the quality, you can see why folk rate it.

And when it sounds as good as mine does you cant recommend it enough.

Say hello to Mr Nasty ...

Image

A few subtle mods to your back box will make it as loud as all the tubi-grip jobs for a fraction of the price ;-)
