S2 - Sports Tourer - Sports Exhaust - Which one is best?

Post by a4drk » Sat Feb 24, 2007 9:11 pm

Again, a question probably answered by "Do a search" or "pull up a chair", or "open a Stella, here we go".

I've bought a totally standard sports tourer (2001).

Which one gives a mixture between sound & performance?
(Apart from 2ubular as it has only 1 pipe)

I also have an 01 Sports Tourer.

I'm going to stick one of the new Janspeed Roadsport silencers on.

I'd love to get a 2bular, but i really don't like the single exit exhaust (unless you go for a 3 part diffuser, and panel eliminator kit - £££££)

I don't want it too loud in or out of the car, and from what i can gather the roadsport should be pretty good.

being a straight through silencer (before the pipe splits) it should be pretty good performance wise as well.

out of interest - anyone know where you can get one a bit cheaper?? - at the moment i'm just waiting for an eliseparts sale!

Just fitted a Larini Clubsports 8) 8)

Not too loud going steady or at idle. No drone. But give some welly and it sounds like concorde taking off.

SSSSSSSWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

David,

You could just remove the vacuum hose from the actuator behind the driver's side tail pipe and see whether you like the improvement - this is a dry by noise valve so must make some difference!

None of the exhausts will make much if any performance difference without other changes to the system, so it really is just a noise thing.

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks Robin.

So to get 12 to 15bhp out of an exhaust - i really need to replace the manifold & a de-cat pipe too?

I've got the Janspeed SuperSport 'zorst.... Does drone a little on M-way crusing as the revs rise (80-90mph). But for A-road blasts it's good.

EDIT: Please disregard the above comment as I have since found out after dropping the diffuser that I do not appear to have a Janspeed at all. Looks more like a Larini Clubsport.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, but I'm def looking into a 2bular. I was the same, got put off by the single exit and was going to go for a Janspeed Roadsport or a Larini Club Sport. Done some reading on other forums for research and it seems Janspeed and Larini have had some issues, probably all sorted by now. Reading all through the exhausts threads I've never heard a bad word said against 2bular. I just kept looking at the website and the single exit has really grew on me, with the panel kit. It looks really cool 8) with the 3 part diffuser so not sure how it would look with mine, as its the old single type. If it does looks pants, I'll just go shopping for a 3 part diffuser. Unfortunately its going to have to wait a couple of months as I'm getting a new kitchen fitted, so £££ is a bit tight but will be trying to get one on by the summer. To be honest I cant really wait and keep thinking I'll rape the CC but we'll see what issues the cars got as I haven't driven it for 2 months and has been sitting outside in Aberdeen weather.

You won't get 12BHP out of an exhaust unless you've made a lot of other mods and still running standard manifold - changing the manifold and back box might then release the strangled horses ... but you would be running at 180-200BHP I think.

If it's power increase you want, the standard exhaust is good for at least 140BHP and more, no problem - you could swap cams or do some head work or both and get this sort of improvement whilst retaining a nice quiet car

We fitted a janspeed sports exhaust to our previous standard sports tourer. It certainly made a much better noise than the standard one. Didnt notice any other benefits tho, but then again... it was only bought for the NOISE :D

IMO, the Larini sounds best on the K series cars and I had no issues whatsoever with mine. I believe the fitting issues were because Lotus changed the design of the mounts and didn't tell anyone!
Anyway, asking which is best isn't really going to get you anywhere because it's entirely down to personal preference. You won't get any noticeable extra performance so just get the one that sounds best to you :thumbsup

Pop along to Knockhill on the 10th March if you can and I'm sure you'll hear most of the options then.
