Waterproofing soft top

Post by vet111s » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:30 pm

anyone tried Nikwax's tent and gear proof for soft tops? seems to be similar stuff to what Goretex et al coat their garments with on the outside. also seems fairly cheap.

I find that the roof itself doesn't leak it just doesn't quite fit the hole it covers...

I used Fabsil. Agree that roof itself isn't usually a leak point, but the proofing will make the fabric less prone to rotting if the car has to be left outside a lot. In fact Nick Rossi got his so well fabsil'd up that the water beaded up better on the roof than the bodywork ;-)

Yes... I just bought the NikWax Tent & Gear Proofer earlier this week, and applied it (Thursday night I think).

Got it at one of those outlet shops in McAthur Glen for £3.95 for 300ml (should be about £9). Plenty left over for a further treatment I think....

My leaky issue is due to the seal rather than the fabric, so I need to get it back to MMC soon.
I have no signature.

I use the Autoglym cleaner and waterproofing stuff. Does the job just fine. Although, it does smell a wee bit after you apply it . . . :?
