Gearbox notchy

Post by anthonyyule » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:36 am

Hiya,

New here, and as Ive introduced myself in the newbie section, youll know ive got a low mileage S2 exige.

Quick Q, and its not something Im worried about: - my gearbox (specifically 1st) seems notchy, when cold. Is this something reasonably normal? I know that the gearbox is quite "mechanical" anyway, but wondered if there was a difference once the oil was warmed through? - I certainly didnt notice anything on the drive home from Edinburgh at the weekend...........

I find that the gearbox is much better once it has warmed up a bit, so I think that's pretty typical.

It's always worth giving the linkage some TLC with copper slip or grease now and then, but notchy feeling comes from inside the box and that won't have anything to do with the linkage.

Cheers,
Robin

Unfortunately the rover gearbox is just mince. - an eliseparts linkage kit makes it more accurate, but more notchy at the same time. - big improvement, though!

My 111R is the same. Needs a bit of force to get into first when cold, but loosens up as it warms up.
