S2 longtail on an S1?

Post by GregR » Fri Mar 30, 2007 11:21 am

Was thinking, what's different about the 'quick release' system on the S2 compared to the S1? I appreciate the cross-spars are in a different position (door-door on the s1, windscreen to rollbar on S2) but aside from that, would the S2 system 'seal' onto the S1 windscreen surround?

Surely someone has thought of a retrofit...

So aside from changing the windscreen surround, windscreen, roll bar cover (and probably the windows door mechs winders, doors and door cards) and chopping about all the bits in between its a straight swap. :D

Seriously though, get them side by side and have a look see what needs to be done but it will be pretty major surgery

I guess a retrofit wouldn't be the best plan - I wonder if you could use the ideas from the S2 system and manufacture sometning... We could keep the bars at the side popped on to the roof, and then the only issue preventing it being unrolled and 'fitted' would be a seal at the windscreen mount. Surely you could come up with something Rich :)

Yeah come on Rich..... stop messing about on the phone and engineer us a solution!!!

I'd prefer a short style one on my s1 though... so you can see the stripes on my roll bar cover if poss!

Hmm, would be nice. But I dunno how to hold the front edge down with is the main problem when folding up the roof. Velcro might work but also might work fantastically badly too....

Tell you what lend me your car for a couple of weeks and I'll have a bash....

Dom taught me everything I know about gentle, gradual adjustments.

And back on topic...

...not sure what is quite so fiddly with the S1 roof? I've used a few S2 roofs and didn't find them especially better.

With the S1, provided you get well drilled, it's a doddle. Although I admit it works way better when there's two of you to tackle it :-)
