Front Panel Release Cable

Post by Fluoxetine » Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:30 pm

Has anyone changed one?

Mines has been very difficult to operate for some time - The hinges on the panel are out of alignment too, so it's a right royal pain!

Anyway, I had to change my battery out last week, as the old one died over the winter, and no amount of trickle charging seemed to be reviving it...

In my excitement to get the long dormant shed back on the road, I didn't tighten the retaining bracket suffiently, end result being that the battery has moved once or twice under rough love on rough roads, shorting the electrics out on each occasion...

(For reference the stack goes mental, and my EFi ECU decided idle speed was going to be 2000rpm... :? )

Car's fine now, but I need to secure it before any more 'rough love' - thinforth and I tried to open the panel yesterday, with no luck...The cable has either stretched or snapped...

Any tips for opening the panel without the release?

Any tips for changing it out - Has anyone had a go before? Is it a total nightmare like the boot release cable??! :(

Cheers,

Ross.

Alighment is everything on the bonnet
try push /pull/twist to free whilst someone pulls the cable
failing that a very long rod/stick from pax wheel arch to connect onto the release lever ( check a pals out to see where ) and push
I fitted a s/ h clam then a s/h bonnet to my ex write off elise the bonnet has to be just right with the hinge / pin and catch also the clam fixing bolts with the rubber bumps not to high
