Squeeky accelerator pedal

After tracking down an annoying noise when changing gear, I traced it to the accelerator pedal. When I come on and off throttle for a bit it squeeks, it doesn't squeek any other time seemingly.
Anyway I WD40'd all over the thing and it seemed to work for a day or two but stopped.
Thing is I'm worried that if there is noise there is friction and something is broken... any common faults anyone know of?

Apparently a comon problem is the accelerastor piviot bush

I got a brass one off ebay as a replacement a couple of days ago but have yet to fit it.

Cheers for the info. Any idea where to get one of these bushes from on ebay? I had a wee search but nothing came up - also which part is the problem. Could you point it out in this beautiful picture?

Mine squeaks only when I come off the gas. Very annoying in traffic.after a look at the throttle box I have decided to ignore it.

Could you not grease the bushing with vaseline or summat that won't dry out? My clutch pedal does the same thing but it's far too cold and dark for car repairs this time of year...

Problem is - it's not the pivot that squeaks. The mounting plate (gold thing in pic) and arm (connected to the pushrod in pic) actually start to rub when the bush wears enough to let them. That's what causes the squeak. So grease would be quickly wiped out of the way...
Hence the nice new bush required. We all like a fresh bush...

how much of a pain in the @rse is the DIY fix? I've got squeaky clutch - thought it was just the crap soles on my shoes that I then threw out

Clutch is a different issue. It's the bush (jesus, there I go again) inside the pedal - the pushrod to the master cylinder goes straight out the back of the pedal - no linkage.
Uprated part "Clutch trunnion kit" from Lotus (as Gareth has got). And yes, it's a git and a half to do, by all accounts...
