Yoko AO48's too soft, any good alternatives?

Post by Meenrod » Tue May 01, 2007 3:03 pm

Hi all,

I've tried this over on the PH forum, but being from north of the border Ed suggested I try here and also say 'hello', so hello everyone! I know this has probably been covered before, but thought I would ask anyway- I use my Exige S2 as a daily driver and commute Edinburgh to Perth everyday, so whilst I love the performance capabilities of the standard AO48's, I'm finding that replacing a set at £550 every 8 weeks a little eye watering to say the least... I'm really after another tyre that offers nearly the same level of grip, but is longer wearing and cheaper if possible (the holy grail, I know) so I've been thinking of either Toyo Proxes T1-R's or Pirelli Rosso's- anyone have an opinion on them or an alternative?

Thanks all,
Meenrod

I think you'll need to make some sacrifices. The reason A048's are so good is because they aren't around for a long time - harder rubber would give less grip but stay on the wheel rather than leaping to the road as the earliest opportunity.

Quite a few of the S2 guys now use the AD07's are getting fair grip levels and good wear rates - not sure about the sizes of an exige tho.

Are AD07's dealer fit only or can I get them from anyone else? Might be a good alternative.

And yes, I am a member, just been lurking for a while! 8)

Yeah Ed, share the name cos I might need some too. Considering switching to the 888s just to see what they're like compared with the 48s.

Should we avoid them both for 5 - 6 days? :)
