111R Engine stalling.

Hi all,
Anyone with a 111R/Exige experience frequent stalling, usually when going slowly, parking and the like. Seems to happen a lot when coming out of reverse, and usually only when the engine is hot. I'll drop the clutch, the revs dip and quite often the ECU doesn't catch it and it'll stall.

I searched the archives for this, and found a thread where Ed was detailing a similar issue when he still had the BatMobile, and others had noted the same but there was no mention of it being resolved as far as I could see.

Is it something I'll need to live with?

Ta,
D

Not had this myself, but I think it was a fairly common problem with earlier 111Rs/Exiges which was cured by updated ECU software. Might be worth asking MMC.

Yeah it happened a couple of times to me. I think it needs an ECU update/upgrade. MMC should be able to sort it FOC under warranty.

HTH cheers Ed

Thanks for the info lads.
Didn't buy the car from MMC and its an '04 so no warranty. Guess I'll have to fork out for the ECU update!

Good excuse to go the whole hog and get the cam change lowering reflash :) - no better upgrade for a NA Yota car.

Shouldn't make any difference if it's a fault with the car that was there from new. Give them a call and ask.

Have you had the reflash?
is it good/worth it/better/all that stuff?
I was talking to Graeme about it this morning and may well have it done next month at service time. He certainly made it sound like a good move :?

Its great how Lotus can sell a car thats the pinnacle of their range (at launch) then 3 years later do its best to convince its customers that it needs a reflash to alter the most obvious "characteristic" of the engine.

And relieve said customers of £££.

Should be free I reckon!

Yup, had it for several months now and it is the nuts. For me it really transforms the driving experience - if you do a search over on SELOC I think you will find lot of people very happy with it. I understand JJs point about the cost, but the way I look at it is that nearly everyone ends up spending a similar amount on a sports exhaust which makes zero difference to the way the car drives save for a bit of noise, whereas the reflash makes an instant and very noticable improvement.

Im probably too late to be of any help but thought id post this anyway. Hope it helps DaveG.

I have the same problem with my 111R so had a look about on forums and found that its a common problem and Lotus know about it. Apparently they need to reset the throttle position or something. Dunno wot that involves. Its like a recall issue tho. Get onto MMC and insist thaey sort it for you FOC as its a fault with the car from new!!

Good luck!!

Agree with jj there.

All they are admitting is that they got it wrong in the first place, this is the way that it should have been, but we will charge you a stupid amount of money to put it right. Around £500 if I remember correctly, or almost the price of a new programmable ECU.

Its a bloody re-flash that costs them peanuts, so at least give them a hard time and tell them what you think.
