S160 niggles

Post by graeme » Tue May 22, 2007 9:47 am

S160 owners: any guidance on whether the following are normal or may need attention would be very much appreciated. Still learning how the car behaves and getting used to the new noises... :)

+ On turning on the ignition, the fuel pump runs for a good 20-30 seconds. It was only a few seconds on the standard car IIRC.
+ When starting, the engine takes a good few seconds to 'catch'.
+ The fan seems to come on around the mid nineties. IIRC, the standard car it came on at 100+

Normal S160 behavior, or something to look at at the weekend?

Thanks in advance.

Graeme

The fan switching on cooler is a good thing - mine is set at 95 in the Emerald software. Okay, the fan sees more use, but I'd rather that than the head heat cycling more...

The starting issue is 'cos it's not predisposed to idling :) I have the same issue with DTHTBs and no IACV.

All sounds OK,may be worth checking ,changing both the temp.sensors, another common fault on all cars, but the 160 shows it up.Or it could all be just fine.

Fuel pump on my car runs for about 5 to 10 sec.
ECU may take a few turns to pick up the position sensor
Fan is fine, but may indicate to temp.sensors sre faulty.

according to a post on selcock, the fuel pump priming isnt time based, its just runs until the pressure is adequte.

Could it be a problem that means your pump runs for longer?? mines only needs 5 seconds at the most

How does it know the fuel pressure is fine? There isn't a fuel pressure sensor as far as I know ...

Could just be difference between SVA ECU in Graeme's car and whatever ECU Stu has?

If it's predictable and works, leave it alone!!

Robin

Thanks for all the info guys. Might replace the sensors as that's cheap and easy, but the rest I won't lose any sleep over.
