I have a 2001 Sports Tourer.
I have just fitted a Janspeed Back box & a Pipercross Airfilter

Will changing the standard throttle body to the bigger 52mm one make a difference?

To initial response - yes. Will be a bit more difficult to modulate throttle from idle (like in traffic)

Gains? Minimal, if any. They make more sense with a ported head, where the TB is becoming a restriction. If you get a couple of horsepower, you'll be doing well, although some people report better pick up.

You can get the better pickup by reworking your current alloy throttle body - the throttle plate has a "shoe" bolted to the underside of it - if you remove the shoe and then refill the bolt holes with solder you will get better throttle response (DVA posted an explanation on SELOC not so long ago, and someone did it and posted back pictures, so there is a good guide out there).

As shug says a couple of BHP at the top end would be a good result from 52mm, so depends whether you just want to bolt it on or whether you would rather DIY mod the existing one and keep the cash.

Cheers,
Robin

I put the bigger TB onto my car a few years back, liked the improved throttle response and the fact that it no longer stuck. But I had a placcy one before, if you already have an alu one then Robin's suggestion is worth a try first.

I added a VVC manifold and 52mm tb to the cat. Seperate, not together.

Noticed a big difference from the manifold. Nothing noticable from the tb.
