Actually, I was meaning to use the MLS if you decided to reuse your old head.

The MLS without the shim is perfectly good I hear, but I've never used one - sooner or later it will be all you can get, so you can just use one ...

The MLS with the shim would require a head skim.

You can buy an MLS at your average motor factors - the BGA gasket set I bought came back with a MLS, but Lawrence bought one recently from Maxies (or however it's spelled) - also a BGA kit - and it was the OEM type.

If you want a complete head set including MLS I have one of the BGA kits unopened ...

Cheers,
Robin

Why? The gasket itself is not thicker (it looks like it will be, but it cannot be, because the compression rings are the same); if you were going to fit the shim you would need to skim the head, but without the shim, it's OK, no?

The head gasket set I got for Mandy's car had a "head saver shim" in it.

I just fitted it

Pretty weird head gasket - there wasn't any noticeable silicone on it unlike the one I removed.

That will explain why the compression tester figures have dropped a bit!

Oh well - it's not going to be on for ever.
