Induction

Post by BiggestNizzy » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:06 pm

was thinking about putting a 'decent' air filter in the car as the fram number I got from the factor just isn't sexy enough.

my current thinking is either ITG panel filter or K&N 57i kit.

does anyone have any experience of these filters, or is there something out there better. that doesn't involve more late night trips to cadogen square to sell my body.

K&N or ITG Panel filter in standard air box gets my vote.

Cheers,
Robin

i looked at putting on an induction kit during my last spate of upgrades but ended up with a k&n panel filter. I recon its better value saving the cash and spending it on head work first... Did put a CRP on though and it makes a nice noise now :)

Will order myself an ITG panel filter I think, sounds cool. K&N is just so boy racer. although I have heard they give a 10hp Boost to 1.2 Corsa's.

Question though about the other end. now the car has passed her MOT :D:D:D I thought to myself why not fit that De-cat pipe you got with the car and spent a day de-rusting, shot blasting and painting.....

2 Days work later, job done. what a nightmare even the rust had rusted  so now she is a little bit louder and a bit farty when the engine is braking, is this normal ?

Yes, you will also be getting gassed with unburnt Hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide but if you like the smell, then enjoy it...life is too short ;-)

A permanent panel filter makes sense, induction kits are generally just adding a lot of noise with a wee bit of throttle response improvement but they sook so much warm air (unless fully ducted like the standard box) that it can even be a backward step.

I have had a K&N panel filter since Tut handed me down a dusty, never-seen-oil example from his original B&C 140 Elise ;-) I upgraded to a new one courtesy of LotusEcosse and never looked back. Clean and re-oil it with each service. Saves money too.

I went the induction kit... but the cheep ones are pathetic, better off with a panel filter as said above.

If you want a decent set up you need to spend serious money considering ducting routes and heat shielding....etc....

not reqired for a std engine unless you plan to do more upgrades like exhaust manifolds/cams/etc
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Does the engine actually pop and bang while on the overrun, or is it just a bit louder than it used to be?

Cheers,
Robin

when my decat pipe was on, it popped & banged on the overrun... or that could've just been the fractured flexi at the time

Hmm - you may need to adjust/reset/replace your TPS if it's popping and banging at >1,600 RPM on the overrun. The ECU cuts fuelling on closed throttle above 1,6000 RPM then turns it back on at 1,600 to prepare for idling. It allows a complete revolution or two of the engine before starting ignition, so you get a bunch of fuel in the exhaust just at that point and then it will burble a bit when that ignites - the lack of cat may make this louder than it used to be, but it was always happening!

Cheers,
Robin

LOL!!!

I have a hurricane filter kit which fits perfectly over the air intake vent thing on the side of the car, I consider it to be worthwhile, but the amount of crap it suck up is unbelievable. I'm currently cleaning mine about every 3000 miles.
