No spacers required for 111R or SportsRacer ('yota hubs), but there are issues with suspension (someone will come along and link you to it !)

Only issue if you're using sticky rubber (048s and the like) is that if you are driving it well enough to be using the rubber, then you'll overwhelm the standard springs and have it rolling too much. That leads to weird camber angles, too much weight transfer and less grip.
If you're going to be quick enough to use the sticky tyres properly then look at whacking on Exige (or other aftermarket) suspension too.
Of course, if it's just to whack on another set of tyres so you don't kill your good road rubber, then there's no issue at all.

I was going to say that I never had a problem running 48's on standard for a year - then I realised - I've now got massive big holes in the arch liners

What's the better suspension Nitron Sport Package with Eibach springs or the Exige kit? I read somewhere if you put 48's on you need to upgrade toe links? Is this just on earlier cars?

You need to upgrade toe links on an S1 if moving to stickier tyres - not required in the S2 but you should increase your maintainance schedule with regards to checking them before and after any track or "involved" driving.

Dunno (lost track of specs after Race Tech, TBH) - but if it does, you're sorted

You may be right with the Exige suspension on the sportsracer - phone Lotus, they'll tell you....

Elise Sports Racer also benefits from uprated Eibach springs and stiffer Bilstein dampers
Googled - yes it's got the Exige kit - you're sorted
