Rear Light on 111R (with led)

Post by douglasgdmw » Wed Aug 08, 2007 1:28 pm

Took the shopping out of the car last night and noticed that the bulb for my rear light cluster (presume reverse light) has come detached from the socket and is loose in the lens.

Problem is that it is awkward to get out as it is sitting at the bottom of the unit and the hole is in the middle. There are a couple of bolts but wondering whether this takes the lights off (which I do not want to do).

Any advice on how to get the bulb out would be appreciated as it is looking pretty awkward and even pliers is going to be mega fiddly.

Cheers

On the non-led s2 the lamp is held on by two bolts/studs, very easy to remove. If one of the bolts you mention is at the top and the other at the bottom, I would imagine they are the same.

Go for it.

Yup happened to the reverse bulb on my R.

Remove the bolts and light cluster to fish the bulb out. If you try to cram too much into the boot it can unsettle the connection, so you might want to tape up the connector to the back of the light cluster to better secure it.

Only a five minute job if you've got a ratchet spanner, will take longer with a ring spanner.

Thanks for that.

Who says the S2 is progress, at least the S1 had a cover over the light cluster so that this did not happen :)

Looks like it will be a task for me tonight then.

This happened to me last week. Managed to knock two connectors off. I took the first light out with an 8mm spanner. It was very easy, just two nuts, one top and one bottom. The second one I managed to pop the bulb back out through the hole with a screw driver. Even easier!

Rear bulb all sorted, even easier than I thought.

While trying to did out the bulb the mobile phone rang. While chatting away the wife decided to tackle the job. With a small kitchen knife, bit of sellotape and some digging around she got the buld out of the tail light, connected it back up and hey presto one working rear reverse light and all before I finished my phone call :D
