Hmmm.

Will be tight for me to get there for 5.30. Can you go out even if you miss the briefing??

You have to have a briefing before you can go on track in accordance with our and Knockhill's T&Cs.

If you are cutting it fine then try and get in contact with myself with an expected arrival time and we can squeeze a briefing in.

And we do accept cash on the night :)

Hi,

Had a quick chat with Brunty and he says it will be ok for me to take my Smart Roadster up tomorrow night.

I'm very seriously looking to get an elise as my next car, I'm still a little put off by the high service/replacement part costs. Anyway it will be good to see so many Elises in one place. I expect some of you owners can offer advice about Elise Ownership.

I've done KH track days before and often find I'm slow on the straights but make up for it on the corners, however compared to you guys I'll be slow on the straights AND slow in the corners! So I'll try and not get in the way too much!

I've not been to KH this year, I take it the track improvements get the thumbs up?

Buster

Don't worry buster, I'll be taking it easy if I go out on track.

Keep seeing Smarts up ahead and thinking they're Loti.

Hi Buster,

Grab some pax laps when your up tomorrow, come find either Mandy or I (we'll be the couple fighting over the car keys).

As for high servicing costs - go independant, and as for part - most are cheap as the elise is a parts bin on wheels!!!

EG: Hub Bearing - Montego

Ball Joint - Chevette

S1 Buttons - R5 (i think)

The list goes on and on :D

Mac
S2 Elise (cobalt blue with stripes) - toy spec
Caterham 7 - hillclimb spec
Yamaha Thundercat - 2 wheeled toy spec

i agree. towing eye 1/4 inch thick. therefore 1/4 inch less of undertray bolt in bottom of car. Will it hold??

A very rough quick calc says...

Cross sectional area = 50.1mm2 which means a shear capacity of 8kN x 2 bolts ( based on a grade 4.6 bolt) = 16kN or 1600kg nearly double the weight of the car. As long as there is enough of the bolt in the chassis of the car it will be fine.

and normally the car will be in reverse helping with the tow so im sure they will be fine. :D

I'd not be happy with pulling on only this. The shear won't be a problem but the bending will. I'd be very concerned with the area it connects into. The rear subframe is only made of thin plate, the thickest is on the bottom.
If you do a search for Crosby HR-1200 Side Hoist rings. These look a better solution, but the safe working load is only 400kg on an M10 bolt. It does have a 5 times overdesign though. So no worries.

I'd be interested to have a ride in your Smart - you would be very welome to come for a pax in the Exige in return.
